Elevator Construction Project

Background

The library's passenger elevator was installed in 1968. The typical lifespan for this type of elevator is about thirty years. We were able to keep it in operation for fifty-five years, but it was clearly in need of replacement, breaking down frequently, and replacement parts were becoming increasingly hard to find.

Funding

Replacement of the elevator will cost approximately $500,000. The Board of Aldermen for the City of Waterbury approved the use of local bond funds for $250,000 to be used as a one-to-one match for a $250,000 Construction Grant from the Connecticut State Library in 2021. The State Bonding Commission approved our Construction Grant request on May 26, 2022.
